As part of their official King Of The Ring website, the WWF
is having a tournament poll to select the "King of Kings", where the
previous 8 King Of The Ring winners are matched up in a fantasy tournament. Voting
will begin later this week.
The first round matches are:
Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle
Mabel vs. Ken Shamrock
Triple H vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Owen Hart vs. Billy Gunn
The site also features video clips of the 1996 tournament,
including the famous interview where Steve Austin first created "Austin
3:16".
MICK FOLEY SAYS COMPUTER
PROFICIENT FANS SCARE HIM
Mick Foley was interviewed on The John Boy and Billy Show
to promote his new bestseller Foley is Good. I was unable to hear the
entire interview due to some things that needed my immediate attention at my
office, but I was able to hear a few interesting things.
- He is so enamored with Christmas, he keeps one room in his house decorated
with Christmas decorations year round. In fact, he did the interview from that
very room.
- He discussed his love of amusement parks, and claimed to be getting into
shape for roller coaster season. He also defined success as cutting in line
for a roller coaster and receiving cheers, (which he has done at least once).
- He talked about the events that led to "Tony's Tattle", when Tony
Schiavone disclosed the results of Mick Foley's Championship winning match. He
said that Raw and Nitro were neck and neck at that time, and found it
interesting that when Tony gave away the ending, 350,000 homes switched from
Nitro to Raw. (I assume the information came from Nielsen Ratings).
- He plugged his website www.mickfoley.com and talked about how uneasy he is
with computers and those who are proficient with them. "Frankly", he
told a cackling John Boy, "my computer fans scare me!"
A studio visit was promised and he departed the show.
HART FAMILY TO OPEN OWEN
TRIBUTE SITE
We received the following press release today from the Hart
Family.
Official Press Release
Hart Brothers Wrestling
http://www.StampedeWrestling.com
On the 2nd anniversary of the tragic accident, which caused
the death of beloved wrestler Owen Hart, the Hart Family has commissioned the
construction of an online tribute to his life and career.
The site, which is being built by Stampede Wrestling's
Blake Norton and graphic designer Dayna Everett, is currently in the later
stages of development. The project is being created as an opportunity for
fans, friends and family to celebrate one of the most remarkable people this
industry has ever seen. Along with photos of Owen's life, both at home and in
the spotlight, the website will house original memories and moments from
Owen's mother and father, brothers and sisters, as well as contributions from
his co-workers and fans all over the world.
The Hart Family respectfully invites the wrestling media to
help pass along this information to the fans and friends of Owen Hart. We
would like to hear from any of his co-workers and friends that would like to
contribute their thoughts to be put along side those of the family's. The site
staff can be contacted at the e-mail address Owen@StampedeWrestling.com
We also invite fans to send in tapes of their favorite Owen
Hart matches and moments, photos and otherwise, which will also be featured on
the site. We look forward to hearing from fans with such contributions via
e-mail.
An Owen Hart message board has been launched on
StampedeWrestling.com. Until the official site launches next week, it gives
fans the opportunity to contribute their thoughts and memories, many of which
will be printed on the final site.
The World Wrestling Federation has agreed to contribute to
the upcoming site. Owen spent most of his career with Vince McMahon's WWF,
where he became one of the top names in the industry. His achievements include
recognition as King of the Ring tournament winner and two reigns as
Intercontinental Champion.
The Owen Hart Online Memorial is scheduled to launch as
soon as all main contributions have been processed, which should be sometime
next week. A second release, with further information, will be made available
at that time.
ANGLE ALMOST BECAME A
STEELER, IT'S TRUE
Kurt Angle tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1995.
Had he made the team, he never would have gone to the Olympics, never would
have won a gold medal, and probably wouldn't have ended up in the WWF. It's
true.
In an article on the Pittsburgh Steelers official website
www.steelers.com,
Aaron Boulding looks at Angle almost ending up in football, and in an essay
written by Angle himself, he talks about how the course of his life would have
changed forever if he had made the team.
TAZMISSION.COM TO BECOME
'JUST ANOTHER VICTIM'
Tazz' official website for over two years,
www.Tazmission.com
is closing. Tazz has posted a final commentary, thanking the internet
fans that have supported him throughout his career. He also drops a hint
about his future on the net.
